Each edition of Undercurrents brings together essays by thinkers, authors, psychologists, and scholars informed by psychoanalytic traditions, especially those of Jung, though not confined to him. The voices differ, and no unified theory is put forward. Instead, the intent is to share ways of thinking that take the inner world seriously, by which we mean the life of the psyche: its images, moods, dreams, memories, symptoms, symbols, and dynamics.

Contributions explore psychological phenomena as they appear in individuals, cultures, stories, and technology. They may examine concepts from Jungian psychology, its history, and comparative psychoanalysis, or address developmental phases and personal crises, always from a psychologically reflective perspective. Political commentaries are not published.

We prefer long-format articles (between 3,000 and 10,000 words) to allow the authors enough space to express thoughts in a reflective and intentional way. We prefer long-format articles as they ask the reader to rest with the content for long enough to let the text enter their thoughts. This journal is intentionally designed with an emphasis on text, no redundancies, and no distractions; the thought is at the heart of this matter.
